Royals at Orioles: Sunday, July 12 Starting Pitchers
Seth Lugo draws the assignment for Kansas City, and this is exactly the kind of start the Royals need from their veteran right-hander. Lugo has been one of the anchors of this rotation, and taking on a Baltimore lineup that features some legitimate offensive threats is a real test. He'll need to work efficiently and keep the ball in the yard in a hitter-friendly environment.
Shane Baz gets the nod for the Orioles. The former top prospect has the stuff to keep any lineup off-balance when he's sharp. Kansas City's hitters will need to be patient and work counts early to get a feel for what Baz is bringing on Sunday.

Keys to Watch for Kansas City
Bobby Witt Jr. Sets the Tone
Hitting second in the order, Bobby Witt Jr. is the engine of this offense. When Witt is seeing the ball well and getting on base, the middle of the Kansas City lineup — Caglianone, Thomas, Pasquantino — has a chance to do real damage. The Royals go as far as Witt takes them on a given afternoon.
Lugo vs. Gunnar Henderson
The matchup to watch at the top of the Baltimore order is Lugo against Gunnar Henderson. Henderson is the kind of hitter who can change a game with one swing, and if Lugo lets him beat him early, Baltimore can snowball in a hurry. Keeping Henderson in the yard is priority number one.
Carter Jensen Earning Reps
Jensen leading off is an interesting wrinkle in this lineup construction. The young catcher gets a chance to set the table for Witt Jr. and the heart of the order. How he handles Baz early in the game could dictate the tone of Kansas City's offensive approach all afternoon.
Pete Alonso in the Middle of Baltimore's Order
The Orioles' cleanup spot belongs to Pete Alonso, who brings serious power to Camden Yards. Lugo cannot afford to make mistakes in the zone when Alonso steps in. Tunneling off-speed pitches and staying out of the middle of the plate is essential.
Prediction
This is a winnable game for Kansas City if Lugo is on. Camden Yards can get loud in a hurry with Henderson and Alonso in that lineup, but Lugo has the experience to navigate tough environments. Give the edge to the Royals if Lugo can give them six solid innings and limit the Baltimore power threats. Royals 4, Orioles 3.
